Raiders of Blackveil hits Steam Early Access!

I've been working at a small Danish startup called Wombo Games for the past 2.5 years, and our first game has finally entered Early Access on Steam!

Raiders of Blackveil is a top-down action roguelite that can be played in co-op multiplayer with up to 2 friends, or alone, if you're up to the challenge. It features MOBA-like champions, RPG-style loot, and extraction elements.

For the roguelite part, the emphasis is on "lite", so expect progression between runs. After a run, you return to the rebel base, where you can buy/sell items, unlock new perks, or unlock new rooms that you can encounter during a run.

The Early Access version comes with a whole new chapter with its own set of unique enemies and bosses, and some new environment-specific gameplay elements.

My part

The game already comes localized into 11 languages, which ideally should have been done much later, about a month before 1.0, but we needed to reach a broader audience now that we're in Early Access. This adds a bit of extra work (for me), whenever we need to replace or update parts of the UI, as design is still getting fine-tuned.

We have full support (with human translation) for the following languages:

  • English
  • German
  • French
  • Spanish (Europe)
  • Spanish (LATAM)
  • Portuguese (Brazilian)
  • Polish
  • Russian
  • Simplified Chinese
  • Japanese
  • Korean

And of course there's Hungarian, but it has no official support, so that one is basically my pet project now. In its current state, half the text is missing, while the other half is outdated. I'll tend to it once I have a little time and we're closer to a final product.

We have new and updated UI, basically half of it was replaced. In some cases it's not just visual, the perk wheel ("TAB menu") and ability icons (HUD bottom center) have been completely redesigned with new layout and input scheme. The mouse & keyboard input on the ability icons is still not perfect, so there will be a third pass soon.

I also made the input key rebinding to work properly this time, no more hard-coded keys. You can rebind to all kinds of crazy left-handed layouts to your heart’s content. Same for the gamepad, but with minor limitations when it comes to menu controls.
